Chuck Wagon Cook-Off 2018

Chuck Wagon Cookoff

October 13, 2018

This year marks our 8th annual CHUCK WAGON COOK-OFF!  Enjoy cowboy cookin’ in style by the best!  Teams will compete in an authentic Chuck Wagon Cook-Off as part of The Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History’s Boonville Days on Saturday, October 13th, at noon.

The public is invited to enjoy lunch prepared on an authentic chuck wagon; be a cowboy on the range for a day.  Come on Friday afternoon (October 12th) to see wagon judging and crews in period dress!

Meal tickets for the Chuck Wagon Saturday noon meal will be pre-sold at the Museum and at the event for $10 (includes chicken fried steak, beans, potatoes, bread, cobbler, and bottled water). The lunches are big, so children can share a plate. Meals are only served from 12-1. Tickets are limited, so don’t delay, purchase your ticket today!

Chuck Wagon Cook-Off Award

As an added bonus, every year the Cook-Off features a friendly rivalry between several of our loyal wagon crews who compete every year. All of our teams will go head-to-head in an "Old-West" culinary battle to determine which chuck wagon reigns supreme.  There will be cash prizes and spectacular hand crafted silver and gold belt buckles by Tres Rios Silver for the winning Championship Team!

Visitors to Boonville Days and the Boonville Heritage Park on Saturday, October 13th, 9 a.m.—4 p.m., will also learn about Brazos County’s pioneer history: see characters in period costume; enjoy cowboys, civil war reenactors, musicians, dancers, artists, and much more.  The public will also have the opportunity to observe first-hand demonstrations of frontier skills and trades including flint-making, spinning, quilting, weaving, print-making, and blacksmithing.  There will also be a variety of fun period crafts designed to keep children & adults entertained!

During the free event, visitors can browse through the Museum’s Discovery Room, library, and exhibition gallery.  Visitors can also explore the Texas history display and the Museum’s current temporary exhibit: THE BRAZOS: Legacy of a Mighty River. If you are interested in volunteering or being a re-enactor for Boonville Days, please contact the Museum at (979) 776-2195 or email If you are interested in sponsoring the event, please see our Sponsorship Opportunities and our Sponsor Form.
